Paper Bicycle: Damask
I was recently lucky enough to travel to France, and spent a day at Versailles. I just loved Marie Antoinette's little farm - the houses were so cute! The scenery, art and furniture of Versailles were definitely an inspiration to me, especially all of the wonderful damask patterns - I have photos of the wallpaper and textiles alone! I added a sun into the pattern as a tribute to Louis the XIV, the Sun King.

It was so much fun working with the team at Paper Bicycle this week! Chris, Lindsay and Francesca are super talented and all-around very cool people! Please check out their blog and tumblr!

Paper Bicycle: Butterfly
I have always been fascinated with mounted and framed butterflies and would love to have a pink, polka-dotted wall to display a collection of them someday. A girl can dream, can't she?
Check out more great pattern work (including mine, this week!) at Paper Bicycle!

Paper Bicycle: Nice
Today's topic is nice. Nice...hmmm...well, nice is a difficult word to define, much less illustrate...so I thought about all of the other words we use that can mean nice, and while looking through the sketchbook I was jotting them down in, I noticed that I draw a lot of happy, goofy people who would have nice hair if they were real. I kept it 2-color because my sketchbooks are usually just pen and ink. I like to think that all of the people in my pattern are nice people!

Paper Bicycle: Ditzy/Calico
Today's topic is ditzy, or calico print. A ditzy print is usually floral, and is very small in scale. It also follows a more scattered design, rather than being straight up and down like a stripe or plaid. This pattern goes out to all of the unnaturally turquoise flowers found at NYC bodegas!

Paper Bicycle: Harvest
This week I'll be designing patterns to be posted on the super-cool blog, Paper Bicycle. The three designers behind it, Lindsay, Francesca and Chris, post beautiful patterns based on a topic they choose every day. So it's a great way to get your creative juices flowing by challenging yourself to follow a set topic. Very cool. Today's topic is Harvest, which made me think of what we call the "Debil Moon" in my family: a big, orange harvest moon.
Click the image to enlarge and check out Paper Bicycle's blog and tumblr for more! Check back tomorrow for the next topic and a new design.

Tuesdays at Macri Park
Here is a brand new poster for my lovely friend Lady Bree, who DJs every Tuesday night at a bar called Macri Park, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's a nice little spot here in the neighborhood. Stop by and see her on Tuesday and you might see me too!

Posters for Subplot Studios
Here are three new posters I've created for Subplot Studios. Subplot Studios is working with illustrators from all over to make show poster art available to schools and local theater companies. Their aim is to encourage kids to get involved in drama programs by offering cool art for the show posters. I worked on Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and Our Town. Click to enlarge!

Satellite Lounge, 6.17.11
Sorry I haven't posted in so long! I have been hard at work creating textiles, pillows and all sorts of new designs to beef up the old etsy page. Hopefully it will be up and running soon! In the meantime, I created a new poster for a DJ night at Satellite Lounge in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's a great little bar that has lots of fun pinball machines and they recently got taps! Sounds perfect for a hot summer night and I'm sure this event will be too!

2 New Posters
I am so excited to have done a new poster for my pal Lady Bree, for a show at Public Assembly. This is a bigger venue so doing a poster for an even there is kind of a big deal for little old me! My good friends Heavy Hands will be playing too.
I also had the pleasure of designing a poster for Josh, who is DJing with DJ IT next friday night. I illustrated on top of an old photo from our trip to Paris years ago, and thought collage would be another fun thing to try, rather than strictly illustration, just like the moon man poster from last month.
